“If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light. If I lose paper and ink, I will write in blood on forgotten walls. I will write always. I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you.” ~Henry Rollins~
A friend of mine turned me on to an amazing talent, Henry Rollins. We were at Barnes and Noble and she had asked me if I’d ever read any books by Henry Rollins. When I shook my head no, she handed me this book titled “Eye Scream.” I couldn’t devour it fast enough. I read that book like my life depended on it. I was hooked. I was enamored, and yes I immediately developed a crush and knew I had to meet this man.
I came across this quote while perusing the net, learning everything I could about this very powerful and very talented individual. What I most loved about him was the fact that he wrote and spoke with no apology. He says what is on his mind, he has no fear of who might not like it, he’s just amazing. I wanted to be brave enough to write from such a place of truth and fearlessness. I fell in love with the quote and knew it had to be the next tattoo to tell the story of my life’s journey.
This one was completely designed by Keller. I just gave him the quote. At the time I decided on this tattoo, I was very much into writing books of poetry, self publishing them and selling them out of the trunk of my car. I decided to put this quote on the cover of my book, “Mental Ejaculations.” Before doing that, I sent Henry an email and asked him if it would be okay. He actually responded. It was one of the highlights of my life.
A couple of years later, I emailed him and let him know I was coming to see his show in Orlando and wanted to bring a book to give to him. Again, he responded and said he was looking forward to it, and yes, it actually happened. Bucket list moment in this glorious life.
