I actually became a fan of Anne Sexton right around the time I was falling into Sylvia Plath’s poetry. The first book of Sexton’s I got my hands on this book, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize. I’ve read this book off and on over the years and I am inspired differently each time. I absolutely love her work.

My mouth blooms like a cut.
I’ve been wronged all year, tedious
nights, nothing but rough elbows in them
and delicate boxes of Kleenex calling crybaby crybaby, you fool!
Before today my body was useless.
